Chia seeds vs sabja (sabza, basil) seeds

Both swell in liquid, but chia seeds are oval and grey-white and form a pudding-like gel slowly, while sabja (sabza) seeds are small, round and black and swell within minutes. Sabza is the classic choice for falooda and sherbet; chia suits puddings and overnight oats.

How to store seeds

Keep seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place. Roasted seeds are best eaten within a few weeks of opening; ground flaxseed keeps best in the fridge.

What are sabja seeds (sabza, basil seeds)?+
Sabja seeds (also spelled sabza), also known as tukmaria or sweet basil seeds, are the seeds of Ocimum basilicum.
