What is flavoured makhana?
Flavoured makhana is whole phool makhana (fox nuts) roasted with minimal oil and seasoned after roasting. Pala-G flavours include Peri Peri, Black Pepper, Pudina and Salted, in 100g, 250g and 500g packs. Flavoured makhana can be part of a healthy, balanced diet as a roasted, portion-sized snack.
How many types of makhana are there?
Makhana is sold in three main forms: raw phool makhana (dried makhana) for cooking (kheer, curries), plain roasted makhana, and flavoured makhana seasoned after roasting, like the six above. Raw makhana is also graded by size — larger, whiter seeds are usually priced higher.
How to check makhana quality
Good makhana is creamy-white, light, evenly sized and crisp — it should crush with a clean crunch and smell neutral. Avoid seeds that are soft or chewy, smell stale or oily, or come with many broken pieces and dark husk spots. After opening, keep makhana in an airtight container so it stays crisp.
